Showing an ISO 14732 qualification
We’ve now built the first new set of code rules into Welding Qualifier. They come from ISO 14732 on the qualification of welding operators. Welding Qualifier already has welding operator qualification code rules from ASME IX, so the inclusion of ISO 14732 brings the ISO side of the software closer to the ASME side.
As you’d expect, the number of essential variables is much reduced in ISO 14732 and they concentrate much more on the equipment and its setup. ISO 14732 includes similar principles for confirmation and revalidation of qualifications and there is still a requirement for six month confirmation to be carried out by a responsible engineer at the company or a third party. However, the qualification only needs to be revalidated every three years with the evidence of volumetric testing or the welding operator can be retested after six years.
We’ll be looking at other codes, particularly other parts of ISO 15614, ISO 9606 and the AWS D… series. I’m currently working on API 1104, but I’m awaiting the 2018 (!) revision before finalising the code rules.
